Here's a quick history lesson: The four interlaced rings originally symbolized the four different German automakers that merged in 1932 and became the Auto Union. In 1965, AU was rebranded as Audi, and the ringed logo has changed very little since.

The company name is based on the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August Horch. Horch, meaning 'listen', becomes audi in Latin. The four rings of the Audi logo each represent one of four car companies that banded together to create Audi's predecessor company, Auto Union.

These grilles contained an element designed for attaching Audi's emblem (four interlinked rings). As Audi owns the EU trademark protecting this emblem, it filed a lawsuit against the Polish seller for trademark infringement.

Audi spell the system itself with a lowercase 'q' after the Italian word for 'four' - Quattro with a capital 'Q' applies to the iconic Group B rally car from the 1980s.
